Scope:

Silverstrand were contracted by NX2 to undertake the construction of a large multicell reinforced Concrete pipe culvert as part of the Puhoi to Warkworth Motorway project. The Pūhoi to Warkworth project will extend the four-lane Northern Motorway (SH1) 18.5km from the Johnstone’s Hill Tunnels to just north of Warkworth. It is the first stage of the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Wellsford project. It will be open for traffic by late 2021.

  • Construction of 3 cell culvert, 133m long with 2400mm dia reinforced concrete pipes;
  • Bulk earthworks and excavation and removal of in excess of 9,300m3 of spoil;
  • Placement of sand bedding layer;
  • Placement of flowable backfill to culvert;
  • Placement and compaction of 1,250m3 of rock fill above pipes;
  • Installation of subsoil drainage either side of culvert;
  • Installation of manholes and risers to culvert;
  • Construction of in-situ reinforced concrete inlet and out let structures;
  • Installation of rock protection to inlet and outlet structures;
  • Survey and set out of pipeline;
  • Material handling and transportation of pipework; and
  • Establishment of access roads; and Management of all QHSE for the works.
