Silverstrand were contracted by Fulton Hogan on behalf of Seqwater to undertake the upgrade of the Sideling Creek Dam Spillway at Lake Kurwongbah as part of $20 million in improvement works, to enable the water storage to continue to operate safely into the future.

The upgrade involved the construction of a new external concrete spillway walls and raising of the existing spillway wall in multiple stages, drilling and installation of dowels into existing spillway walls, placement of dental concrete, spillway crest reinstatement works, and the construction of downstream erosion protection works.

  • Placement of dental concrete to faults in excavated rock;
  • Preparation of existing spillway wall surface with high pressure water blasting (15,000PSI);
  • Installation of 900+ mass concrete anchor dowels;
  • Design and construction of 680m2+ of single sided formwork;
  • Construction of formwork and scaffolding access;
  • Placement and compaction of 1000m3+ of structural concrete; and
  • Raising of the existing spillway wall by 600mm.
